Health Benefits of Bowls
Bowls combines gentle physical activity, concentration, fresh air and social interaction. It is a sport that can be enjoyed at different ages and levels of experience, with the pace adapted to the individual.
Gentle Physical Activity
Walking the green, delivering bowls and repeated bending and movement can help keep the body active without the high impact of many other sports.
Balance & Coordination
Bowling uses controlled movement, hand-eye coordination and balance, while encouraging flexibility and mobility through regular play.
Focus & Wellbeing
Every end involves concentration, judgement and tactical thinking. The combination of focus, outdoor activity and enjoyment can be a welcome break from everyday pressures.
Friendship & Community
Bowls is naturally social. Club games, league matches and informal roll-ups provide regular opportunities to meet people, enjoy company and build friendships.
Exercise for body and mind
A game of bowls involves considerably more movement than it may first appear. Players walk repeatedly up and down the rink, bend to deliver and collect bowls, and remain mentally engaged throughout the match.
- Regular gentle walking and movement
- Balance, coordination and controlled delivery
- Concentration, judgement and tactical thinking
- Outdoor activity during the summer season
- Friendly competition and regular social contact
Come and discover it for yourself.
You do not need previous experience. We welcome new players and can help you get started.
Bowls can contribute to an active and social lifestyle, but individual abilities and health needs vary. If you have a medical condition or concerns about starting a new activity, seek appropriate professional advice.
