Welcome to City of Cambridge Bowls Club

We are a friendly and welcoming bowls club based in the heart of Cambridge, playing on the beautiful and historic green at Christ’s Pieces.

Our outdoor season runs from late April through to mid-September. We compete in both the Cambridge & District League and the Meldreth & District League.

New bowlers are always welcome. Whether you are completely new to the sport or an experienced player, we offer a supportive environment with a strong social spirit.

City Bowls is more than just a sports club — it is a community. Alongside competitive bowling, we enjoy a lively social calendar and a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere.

The Health Benefits of Bowls for All Ages

Bowls is a welcoming, low-impact sport that brings people together while supporting physical, mental, and social wellbeing.

It gently improves balance, coordination, flexibility, and mobility, making it enjoyable and accessible for players of all ages and abilities.

Bowls truly shines as a social sport. It encourages conversation, teamwork, laughter, and connection, helping to build lasting friendships and a strong sense of community.

Because bowls is played at a comfortable pace, it’s ideal for building confidence and keeping active without placing heavy strain on joints. The combination of light walking, controlled movement, and gentle stretching supports overall fitness and can help maintain strength and stability as we get older.

Just as important are the mental benefits: spending time outdoors, learning new skills, and sharing a friendly competitive spirit can boost mood, reduce stress, and improve general wellbeing. Many members say the best part is the chat, the laughter, and feeling part of something welcoming and local.

Social Life at City Bowls Club

Bowling is only part of what we do. Our club has a lively and friendly social scene that brings members together both on and off the green.

Whether it’s a relaxed drink after a match, a summer get-together, or a special club evening, our social calendar helps new members feel at home quickly. Visitors and new bowlers often tell us the atmosphere is what makes City Bowls special — friendly faces, plenty of conversation, and a welcoming community spirit.
